The basis of HARIBO sweets is sugar, pork gelatin and fruit and plant extracts. Fruit and plant extracts give the sweets their colour and flavour (e.g. citric acid, not as a preservative, but only as a flavouring in small quantities). The necessary colour is achieved by mixing fruit bases of blackcurrant, orange, lemon, kiwi and apple. The sweets are polished with beeswax and not fat. The sweets spend a relatively long time in production – each teddy bear, for example, 3 days, during which excess water is removed from the product. This can be a carrier of possible microorganisms. It is precisely the lower proportion of water that guarantees freshness and first-class quality with a long shelf life. The consumer is therefore sure that he is receiving a truly unique product.
